Summer Appeal 2026
Dear Friends,
Summer arrives differently in Northeast Ohio.
It shows up in long evenings that stretch just a little further than expected. In front porches and bus stops, in quiet conversations and crowded gatherings. It reminds us that even in places marked by hardship, something living is still growing.
And yet, not everyone gets to feel that ease.
For those experiencing homelessness, the season does not soften the edges. It reveals them. The heat settles in. The ground feels harder. The uncertainty remains. Summer can be one of the most difficult seasons for people living outside, and every day we see how urgent the need continues to be.
Still, even there, something else is taking shape.
We see it in the small, steady ways people hold on. In outreach workers returning again and again, not with easy answers, but with presence. In the moment someone begins to believe that housing is possible. In tenants coming together, learning that their voices matter, that they matter.
And because this work matters so deeply, I’m asking you to stand with us today through a donation or sponsorship of our Housing Justice Summit: Building Tenant Power for Our Future on Saturday, August 1st. Your support helps sustain NEOCH’s outreach, housing advocacy, and organizing efforts while ensuring that tenants and community members most impacted by housing instability are able to participate, lead, and shape these conversations. Your support today ensures we can respond when and where the need is greatest.
This year, at our annual meeting, we named what this moment asks of us: building community in the rubble.
Because the truth is, much of what surrounds us feels fractured. Systems fail. Policies fall short. People are left without what they need. And still, in the middle of it, community is built anyway. Not perfectly, not all at once, but piece by piece. Through care, through connection, through showing up.
That is the work of NEOCH.
The Housing Justice Summit will bring together tenants, advocates, organizers, and community members who are not waiting for change, but creating it together. It will be a space for learning, organizing, and building stronger pathways toward housing justice in our community.
That same spirit lives in every housing plan completed, every document secured, every door opened. It lives in the long path from the street to stable housing, and in the relationships that make that path possible.
Each gift, each sponsorship, and each act of support becomes part of something larger.
Because what we are building does not happen all at once. It happens in moments, in relationships, in the quiet and determined work of staying connected to one another.
Even in the rubble, we are building something that lasts.
Thank you for being part of this community.
With gratitude,
Chris Knestrick
