Crisis Response Skills for Homeless Service Providers
In homeless services, it’s common to encounter individuals experiencing a mental health crisis—whether in shelters, on outreach, or in drop-in spaces. These situations can be unpredictable and emotionally intense, and even seasoned providers can feel unsure about how best to respond. Supporting someone in crisis can be messy and chaotic, and that’s okay.
This workshop is designed specifically for homeless service providers, equipping you with tools to support participants while maintaining safety and care for yourself. Together, we’ll explore how to engage people with dignity and compassion in their most difficult moments.
Workshop topics include:
Principles of crisis intervention
Understanding the nervous system under stress
Peer support and trauma-informed approaches
Emotional regulation and de-escalation skills
Developing safety plans that center participant strengths
Practice through vignettes and role play grounded in real-world scenarios
