Learn to recognize the signs of domestic violence in your clients. Participants will leave with the tools they need to help domestic violence survivors get the support and resources they need. They will also examine the broader picture of racialized gender-based violence in our society and around the world. 

Presenter Grace Miller, an experienced domestic violence victim advocate, will guide participants through the types of abuse, the cycle of abuse, and warning signs of it. Additionally, she will talk about trauma, trauma responses, and the best practices to help clients experiencing domestic and gender based violence.

Presenter Oliva Montgomery of Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence, will be speaking to participants about the intersection of race and domestic and gender based violence. She will discuss the ways that systemic oppression has led to medical trauma, legalized lynching, the school to prison pipeline, and the crimilization of Black famililies. Her presentation will provide context for the current epidemic of sexual violence in our society.

Presenter Mikayla Waters-Crittenton, an experienced restorative justice practitioner, will discuss community-based responses to domestic and sexual violence, which decrease collective trauma for those who have been harmed, those who have caused harm, and their families and communities.
