NEOCH's Permanent Seasonal Shelter
NEOCH in the NEWS: NEOCH opened a permanent seasonal shelter
Past seasonal responses have often been ad hoc, fragmented, or delayed in opening, leaving dangerous gaps in our system. Many of our unhoused neighbors would remain outside without a safe, warm place to go on the coldest days of the year.
"At this point forward, there will never be a building unavailable; a church basement needed, a reason to open late, or close early. Our community will have a seasonal shelter available for the foreseeable future," says Chris Knestrick, Executive Director of NEOCH.
NEOCH has been a trusted advocate and partner in the work to end homelessness in our community. Ownership of this building will bring a higher level of coordination, stability, and accessibility to this vital piece of the social safety net. "As federal policy changes are attacking best practices in homeless services, NEOCH's acquisition of this building allows us to serve people based on our values with deep commitment to dignity and housing-focused care," says Josiah Quarles, NEOCH's Director of Organizing and Advocacy.
