Thursdays, May 13th and 20th from 7-9PM on zoom

This free webinar series will take place on Thursday May 13th and May 20th from 7-9PM. The main goal for participants is to shift narrative about homelessness away from individual responsibility and towards systemic accountability. The presenters will include details about Cleveland specifically, but use them to explain overarching trends in homelessness across the country.

NEOCH presents information on how homelessness is perpetuated through systemic barriers to housing. NEOCH seeks to dispel homelessness myths, and shift the narrative from individual responsibility, to systemic accountability. Participants will hear from housing experts on what they can do to create a world where everyone has a safe place to call home.

In these sessions Maggie Rice, Bishop Chui and Chloe Sudduth will speak about the root causes of homelessness including topics such as systemic racism, housing as a commodity, economic inequality, mental health, trauma, and legal housing discrimination.

Through dialogue, interactive activities, and presentations from experts, participants will learn about the root causes of homelessness in the Cleveland area. This will include historical context as well as current issues; redlining, blockbusting, white flight, gentrification, and housing as a commodity, evictions, source of income discrimination, and fair housing issues will be discussed.  Participants will be asked to think about how their work relates to the root causes of homelessness and changes they can advocate for within their communities.

The recommended readings for these workshops are Homelessness and Racial Disparities and Beyond White Flight.
