Tell the City to Protect Clevelanders from Freezing to Death!

This Holiday Season there is… No Room at the Inn. No Leadership from City Hall. No more people freezing to death.

You can protect homeless Clevelanders from freezing to death this winter with these 2 steps:

  1. Send a letter to Mayor Jackson and Cleveland City Council members and let them know you expect them to protect Clevelanders from freezing to death.

  2. Attend Monday’s rally:

Cleveland City Hall
601 Lakeside Ave, Cleveland, OH 44114
When: December 23rd
4pm Rally
4:45: March and Direct Action

Join Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless and the broader Cleveland Community to demand action to keep our cold weather hospitality center open. As 6 people have frozen to death in our community in the last 2 years and Councilwoman Dona Brady is trying to shutdown UCC Denison and Metanoia, we are demanding swift and immediate action from our elected officials!

We believe in a Cleveland that does not let people freeze to death. Since 2011, Metanoia has served as Cleveland’s winter hospitality center at St. Malachi, offering a much-needed service in a city that expects life-threatening conditions during the winter. Because space was cut at St. Malachi this year, UCC Denison graciously responded to fill this critical gap during the winter months. Now, they are being attacked by Councilwoman Dona Brady.

With a 26% increase in unsheltered homelessness this year and 6 people dying on the street in the last two years, every member of City Council should diligently respond to this crisis. Lackluster support and no-action tweets are not enough. Councilwoman Brady needs to be called in to provide a life-saving response to people in need. We also need to come together to implement a cold weather plan that will legally protect Metanoia’s and UCC Denison’s work moving forward and will also provide support with 24-hour warming centers when temperatures become life-threatening.

We are going to city hall because city and elected officials need to provide funding, resources, and support to protect this critical hospitality service. It is unacceptable that Metanoia has received no support as they are forced to respond to a second targeted attack this season while working hard to provide a warm place for people to rest.
