2019 Training Opportunities:

The Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless is excited to announce new and engaging training opportunities for 2019. Thanks to the Callahan Foundation, we have been able to expand our training portfolio this year. We are using this support to address broader needs in our community that have been identified by our members. We hope that you can take advantage of these opportunities. Let us educate ourselves and do our best to engage people living in crisis with the deepest dignity and respect.  We believe that this training line up will support our community in this endeavor.

 

Friday August 2nd 2019 10am to 3pm: Youth Homelessness and Housing Sign up now!
This workshop is directed at staff of agencies (social workers, case workers and advocates) working with Young adult and Youth homeless populations.  The workshop training focuses on the unique way to engage and work with Young Adults in crisis, understand brain development and  obtaining and maintaining housing and shelter for their youth and Young adults.

Thursday October 10th, 2019, from 9am to 4pm: Safe and Supported Youth: An LGBTQ Cultural Competency Training. Sign up now!
This workshop is directed at staff of agencies (social workers, case workers and advocates) working with youth. It is also for, accepting and inclusive families, faith communities, educators, caregivers and youth-serving professionals, that are key to the success and well-being of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning (LGBTQ) young people.Lighthouse Youth & Family Services’ cultural competency training focuses on promoting safe, competent and supportive care and welcoming environments for LGBTQ young people. LGBTQ youth are often subject to harassment at school, erasure in faith communities, rejection from their families and hostility in youth-serving systems.

Have you ever been a part of, or witnessed a de-escalation that was ineffective, or went wrong?  If you answered yes to one or both of these, then you’ll want to attend this workshop.  In this workshop you’ll learn how to recognize and assess escalating behavior.  You’ll learn how to appropriately de-escalate a situation based on that assessment.  As well as, actual techniques to assist you in your de-escalation.

This workshop is directed at staff of agencies (social workers, case workers and advocates) working with very low income and homeless populations.  The workshop training focuses on all aspects of obtaining and maintaining housing and shelter for their clients. The training includes landlord/tenant and fair housing laws which can help clients maintain housing and take appropriate steps should there be a fair housing complaint or discrimination or inappropriate landlord behavior.
