Homeless Stand Down 2004

The 2004 Homeless Stand Down was a two-day event held at the Old Stone Church on Saturday, February 14th and at Trinity Cathedral on Sunday, February 15th.
The Stand Down served as a winter restock and service fair for homeless men, women, and children. The event was also in educating the public about homeless issues, while encouraging a commitment through service, dialogue, and advocacy from volunteers.

An estimated 540 men, women and children joined the event on Saturday, while 670 people took advantage of Sunday's services. In total, approximately, 685 distinct individuals came to share the love on Valentine's Day weekend. with nearly 200 community volunteers providing much-needed services. Our guests found their way from the men's shelter at 2100 Lakeside, the Community Women's Shelter, Public Square, and a number of other locations throughout the city.

On Saturday, guests received winter coats, boots, breakfast, bag lunches, and hygiene kits. On Sunday, guests were able to receive medical screenings, haircuts, massages, hot lunch, bag lunches, bus passes, entertainment, and hygiene kits.
All of the services provided to the homeless community were made possible through the tireless commitment of volunteers-- from local groups assembling hygiene kits to the medical providers and drivers on the day of the event. Over 2500 combined volunteer hours were donated for the success of this year's event!

We would like to extend our gratitude to both Old Stone Church

and Trinity Cathedral for opening their congregations as a home

for the event on one of the coldest weekends of the year.
