Browns Partner with Homeless Coalition for Blanket Collection

Every year the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless distributes thousands of blankets and winter items to homeless people as part of our outreach program.  This week through our partnership with the Cleveland Browns, NEOCH will offer a ticket to the Washington Redskins game on Sunday December 16 for every two blankets donated, while tickets last.

As the temperature starts dropping and we focus on families and friends during the holiday, the Coalition is working to provide some comfort to those who are resistant to living in a shelter or those forced to live in the overflow shelters.  This year the Cleveland Browns are joining our effort to keep people from freezing this holiday season with one ticket to the December 16 game for every two blankets dropped off at the Homeless Coalition’s offices.  Those donating the two blankets will receive a ticket to the Browns home game against the Washington Redskins on December 16th.

“The largest men’s shelter has operated above capacity since August and the women’s shelter has seen a sharp increase in families seeking help since May, so we are going to need additional supplies this winter to serve the increasing population,” according to Brian Davis community organizer for NEOCH.  “We are still working on recovering from the financial downturn, and all of the shelters and churches are stretched to the breaking point.  We need a big outpouring of help to meet the growing demand for homeless services,” said Davis.

The offer will begin on Saturday December 8 at 1 p.m. until 5 p.m..  NEOCH will open on weekdays at 9 a.m. and will stay open until 7 p.m. starting on Monday December 10 while supplies last to make it easy for people to drop off blankets while they are downtown.  We prefer new blankets, but will accept “like new & clean” blankets.  We intend to distribute the 1,000 blankets collected during the holiday weeks through this program.

NEOCH is conveniently located in the Midtown neighborhood on Perkins Ave. near Dave’s Supermarket on Payne Ave. and the Keybank on Chester.  You just need to push call 32 to enter the building and drop off the blankets.  NEOCH will continue the blanket drive throughout the winter to keep people safe during these cold Cleveland nights.
