National Coalition for the Homeless: A national advocacy network of homeless persons, activists, service providers, and others committed to ending homelessness.  This site contains fact sheets, legislation, alerts, an on-line library, directories of homelessness advocacy groups, and a comprehensive listing of web resources.

National Alliance to End Homelessness : A Federation of public, private and non-profit organizations that promote community-based solutions to homelessness.  Site contains biographies of homeless people, ideas of how you can help end homelessness, fact sheets, and a discussion forum.

National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth : NAEHCY, a national grassroots membership association, serves as the voice and the social conscience for the education of children and youth in homeless situations. NAEHCY connects educators, parents, advocates, researchers and service providers to ensure school academic achievement and overall success for children and youth whose lives have been disrupted by the lack of safe, permanent and adequate housing.

 

Homeless People and the Internet : A resource for homeless people to learn the importance of the Internet and how to gain access to it.  Also contains a section with tips on how to continue your education. 

Stand Up For Kids : An organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and at risk youth.  The Site contains a newsletter and some biographies of street children.

National Law Center on Poverty and Homelessness : This site is known as the legal arm of the nationwide movement to end homelessness.  Contains information about the legal rights of homeless people, food stamp information, and legal updates.

North American Street Newspaper Association (NASNA) : Contains information about the Association, information on the NASNA conferences, how to join NASNA, and how to start a street newspaper.

Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) : Site includes HUD news, information on how you can help the homeless, description of government programs designed to help the homeless, and sections on what to do if you are homeless.

Greater Cleveland Community Shares  : An organization dedicated to advancing social justice by funding organizations through workplace giving.  Web Site includes listing of membership agencies, how to give donations, and updates on volunteer and internship positions.

Link to Help.Org : The First Call for Help database with comprehensive list of social services and programs that serve homeless and low income individuals in Northeast Ohio.

Universal Health Care and Action Network (UHCAN): A nationwide network of individuals and organizations committed to achieving health care for all.  Web Site includes strategies for health care justice, action network, and a resource center for universal health care.

Families USA: An organization dedicated to achievement of high quality, affordable health and long term care for Americans.  Site includes steps for action, publications, health links and resources.  

Project ACT   Provides support services to children and youth residing in temporary emergency shelters.  Site contains program descriptions, special reports, news updates, and the text of McKinney Act law guaranteeing access to education for homeless children.

Cleveland Tenants Organization Provides information about the Ohio Landlord Tenant Law to landlords and tenants in Cleveland.  Information on rental rights, landlord and tenant mediation, and program information.

Neighborhood LINK  An information resource for the people of Cleveland.  This site has a listing of community sites that have a least one computer with public internet access computers to promote civic access to government information, enhancing the delivery of government and social services, and supporting the development of an advanced information infrastructure.

U.S. Conference of Mayors: The official nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more.  Site include Washington updates, news reports, U.S. Mayors newspaper, and the Status Report on Hunger and Homelessness in America's cities. 

Housing America: Housing America mobilizes community groups, tenants, students, religious leaders, pediatricians and other campaigns for increased federal housing funds. Site contains program and campaign information.

The Center for Community Change: Helps poor people to improve their communities and change policies and institutions that affect their lives by developing their own strong organizations.  Site contains program information, jobs and economic development resources, and housing and community development resources.

The Center for Community Solutions: A non-profit health and social service organization that serves as a critical link between health and social services problems and their potential solutions.  Site contains advocacy alerts, electronic publications, public policy overviews, and links.

Community Voice Mail (National): CVM works to deploy Community Voice Mail to homeless and phoneless people with a goal of reaching those, who live in the 50 most-populated cities in the US over the next 5 years.  Community Voice Mail provides the technology needed to connect homeless people with prospective jobs and landlords.

National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness: A network of students and community members that work on developing and improving programs to fight against hunger and homelessness.  The group also uses education as a tool to fight poverty.

Food Not Bombs (national): Organization with hundreds of autonomous chapters that share free vegetarian food with hungry people and protest war and poverty throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Organize! Ohio To advance and encourage community organizing as a strategy for progressive change in Ohio.  Organize! Ohio strives to build a system of support for community organizing efforts across he state by bringing together groups and organizations to: enhance communication and learning, broaden their impact by working together, and identify and meet their training and resource development needs.  

Community Hiring Hall A non-profit temporary labor company that assists workers in the City of Cleveland in finding employment.  The Hiring Hall is a collaboration of labor, religious, advocacy, and non-profit organizations that assist vulnerable populations to find jobs that pay a decent wage.  The Hiring Hall assists workers to improve their skills and is committed to returning more money to the workers who are traditionally exploited by other temporary labor companies.  

Housing Cleveland A comprehensive list of affordable housing in Cuyahoga County.  This website is searchable by number of bedrooms, location, rent or a number of other categories.  HousingCleveland.org has information on how to search for an apartment, and helpful tips for tenants.  This website is also available for landlords to post housing vacancies that they may want to fill.

Statewide Advocacy Groups Working to End Homelessness

Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio : A Coalition of organizations and individuals committed to ending homelessness and promoting decent, safe, fair, affordable housing for all.  Site contains Legislation directory, action alerts, resources, links, and more.

The Columbus Coalition for the HomelessHomeless Coalition in Columbus that works toward ending homelessness by educating the Central Ohio community about homelessness and housing issues and through advocating in a unified voice for social and economic justice.

The Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the HomelessHomeless Coalition in Cincinnati that works toward both meeting the immediate need for emergency shelter and transitional housing and toward providing permanent housing, jobs and health care for all. GCCH is also the home of Cincinnati's street newspaper, Street Vibes.

The Other PlaceShelter in Dayton, Ohio that focuses its advocacy efforts on actively countering all causes and conditions of homelessness through advocacy, education and service.
