Hand Up Gala: Individual Donors

October 2014

The Hand Up Gala is a unique fund raiser in which homeless and hungry individuals get to enjoy the four star meal and the atmosphere of a wonderful dinner.  This year we are also celebrating the 20th year of the Bishop William Cosgrove Center.  Instead of supporters dressing up and purchasing tickets for a dinner and silent auction, we ask you to support this event to support the Bishop Cosgrove Center and the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless.  Everyone that donates at least $50 is entered into an auction, but any donation is welcomed for this event.  In order to meet the budget of NEOCH’s Outreach Program and support the efforts of the Diocese of Cleveland Catholic Charities, we rely on individual donors to contribute funds to our Hand up Gala event.   This year the event is on October 17, 2014 at the Bishop William Cosgrove Center with the auction drawing on October 29, 2014.

Where Does the Money Go?

NEOCH’s Outreach Program has effectively decreased the number of individuals sleeping outside downtown every night from hundreds a night at the turn of the century to approximately twenty-five a night today. Through monetary contributions to NEOCH’s Outreach Program, social workers and health care professionals are able to directly connect with those living on the streets and resistant to shelter programs.  Moreover, NEOCH’s outreach program includes the distribution of the Street Card which details homeless resources in the downtown area. Finally, NEOCH’s outreach program works to establish a safer downtown by encouraging communication with police so that NEOCH can handle issues relating to homelessness and the police can focus on law enforcement.

Diocese of Cleveland Catholic Charities' Bishop William Cosgrove Center supports a comprehensive continuum of care to fragile populations throughout Northeast Ohio including referrals, housing assistance, and obtaining copies of birth certificates and ID cards. Their Cosgrove Center offers breakfast and lunch to hundreds of hungry people Monday through Friday and provides supportive services to those who are struggling to find their way out of poverty. Among theses services, is the providing of bus passes to members of the homeless community and providing therapeutic art classes. Donations to The Bishop Cosgrove Center as part of the Hand Up Gala will assist with renovating the facility in its 20th year.  This includes improving the kitchen, bathrooms and the atmosphere within the Center.

How do I donate?

Mail a donation to NEOCH at 3631 Perkins Ave. Suite 3A-3, Cleveland, Ohio 44114 and mark Hand Up Gala in the memo box or click here to donate online and indicate that your donation is for the Hand Up Gala in the description box. Interested in donating as a business?
