Driving My Way Out of Homelessness

by Michael Dubose

For the second time in my life, I’ve found myself without a home.  The first was brought on by a divorce, which left me with nothing.  Now, an untimely layoff has created this devastating scenario for a second time.  Not being one of the greatest in budgeting my funds, this layoff came at virtually one of the lowest financial points in my life.

Sound pretty ordinary?  Well, I’m probably as ordinary as you.  In an effort to alleviate this situation, I had to find myself a skill that was marketable.  So I enrolled myself in truck driving school, where I received my Class A commercial driver’s license.  To better my chances at finding a job driving trucks, I received the hazardous materials, doubles, triples and tankers endorsements.  NEOCH has given me the opportunity to become a vendor for the Homeless Grapevine, which is a blessing.  I’ll now have to keep praying and keep looking for work and hopefully someday soon, my crisis will end.
