NEOCH Programs have had an excellent year
2005 Highlights
Advocacy
Hosted 6 advocacy meetings for the homeless community to influence our agenda
Worked to reform oversight of the shelter especially the community women’s shelter
Assisted with the development of a statewide Coalition to work on civil rights issues
Cleveland Homeless Legal Assistance – provides a link to legal assistance
CHLAP increased the number of intakes from 400 clients served in ‘04 to 625 clients served in ‘05.
CHLAP increased the number of lawyers, law students and paralegals volunteering with the program.
CHLAP create a pro sé clinic to empower individuals to prepare their own cases
Cleveland Community Voice Mail - provides a link to reliable and private communication
CCVM celebrated 5 years of service to the community and have served 16,500.
CCVM served over 50 survivors from Hurricane Katrina and Rita.
CCVM successfully migrated to a new system that will serve more homeless people.
Bridging the Gap - provides a link to affordable housing and local resources
BTG was the lead organization to create Housingcleveland.org a city wide housing database.
BTG housed over 100 clients including 6 families.
BTG consolidated and moved to a new space.
AmeriCorps*VISTA – provides a link to the community on homeless while creating and implementing programs
Street Voices, NEOCH’s speaker bureau program made over 30 presentations.
Created an outreach program to local churches in order to support families moving into housing
Assisted in raising awareness about the problem of homeless among those who have experienced incarceration
AmeriCorps – provides assistance to Grapevine, CCVM and BTG to serve clients
Members participate in national days of service: Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Make A Difference Day
Members gathered items for the welcome home baskets located furniture for newly housed clients
Members recruited over 100 volunteers to help with various day to day operations and cleaning projects
Grapevine - provides a source of income to homeless/low income people while informing the community on poverty issues
The Grapevine published 8 issues and recruited over 60 vendors to sell the paper
The Grapevine hired support staff to work on stabilizing the program.
They survived another year!!!
